On August 1, 2023, President Joe Biden will implement a plan to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs to consumers. While this decision has been met with controversy, it’s important to understand what it means for the average person.
Despite criticisms from some who view the ban as an overstep by an out of control executive branch, Biden’s plan is aimed at reducing energy waste and decreasing carbon emissions. The plan more or less mandates the use of more energy-efficient alternatives like LED bulbs, the alternative is darkness. Of course, you could light a candle? How long before candle emission come under scrutiny. Anything goes with this administration.
While some may question the government’s role in regulating the light bulb market, many consumers have already made the switch to LED bulbs on their own. The need for further government regulations and restrictions is really the crux of the issue.
It’s important to note that the incandescent light bulb ban only applies to consumer purchases, not to commercial or industrial use. Consumers will still be able to purchase incandescent bulbs for specialty purposes, such as in certain appliances or fixtures. Isn’t that nice? The government will “allow” these bulbs in special circumstances.
Should a government by the people exert this level of control over the people? What’s next?
In conclusion, Biden continues to crank out executive orders. Hopefully, the next executive to occupy this office, regardless of party affiliation, will negate his executive orders as a first order of business.
